Sydney's port says a good crop season in regional New South Wales contributed to record-breaking trade in containers in May this year.

More than 152,000 containers were moved in May, an increase of 7.9 percent on the same month last year, reported ABC News.

For the year so far, container trade in Sydney is up almost six percent on the same period last year.
