The Belgian port of Antwerp saw container volumes surge by more than 19% in first nine months of 2010 and get back to pre-recession levels.
The port handled more than 132 million tonnes of freight, up 13.2% compared with the same period last year.
The port authority said it expected to close 2010 with a volume of 175 million tonnes.
Container volumes in Antwerp were up 19.4% on last year, from 64.6 million tonnes to 77.1 million tonnes as the port handled 6.3 million teu.
This brings container volumes back to the level of 2008, the best year ever for the port of Antwerp.
